The security of smart cards

Jean-Jacques Quisquater

Professor, Crypto Group, Microelectronic Laboratory
Université catholique de Louvain

We will explain how the security of the smart card was put from the beginning (we will include a story of the smart cards). We will include each attack we known and their possible countermeasures.

Jean-Jacques is professor of cryptology at the University of Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, belgium. He is well-known for his involvement from nearly the beginning of the design of secure smart cards: it includes the design of the first smart card with DES and the first smart card with a coprocessor for RSA. He is the co-inventor of the GQ protocol (identification and signature) in use inside Netware (Novell).
