CALL FOR PAPERS --------------- Distributed Systems Engineering Special Issue on Mobile Computing ----------------------------------------------------------------- Guest Editors : Dr. G. S. Blair, Dr. N. Davies (Lancaster University) Dr. R. Alonso (Matsushita Information Technology Lab) Publication Date : Autumn 1995 Recent years have seen the emergence of mobile computing as a major new field of computer science. This is as a direct result of improvements in both end-systems and communications technologies. For example, significant improvements have been made in portable computers in areas such as low-power processors and Thin-Film-Transistor (TFT) displays. Similarly, major advances have been made in the area of wireless communications in both local area and wide area technologies. Moreover, the introduction of mobility into distributed systems has implications for the support provided by operating systems, file systems and communications. Distributed Systems Engineering is an international journal publishing both research and experience papers in the area of distributed systems. The journal focuses on practical engineering papers rather than theoretical approaches. This special issue of Distributed Systems Engineering will focus on system and application support for distributed mobile applications. Papers are therefore solicited in the following areas:- % Operating System Support for Mobile Computing % Specific issues such as location and security % Distributed File System Support for Mobility % Mobile Access to and Querying of Remote Databases % Protocols for Wireless Networks % Host/Network Interfaces for Wireless Networks % Interfaces for Mobile Computers % Distributed Systems Architectures for Mobile Environments % Distributed Mobile Applications % Cooperative Applications Over Wireless Networks % Multimedia into the field Particular consideration will be given to those papers which describe experiences with prototype distributed mobile systems. Submission Guidelines --------------------- Authors are requested to submit 5 copies of full papers (of around 5,000 or 6,000 words) to the following address by 31st January 1995. Kerry Blewett, The Institution of Electrical Engineers, Publishing Department/ DSE, Michael Faraday House, Six Hills Way, Stevenage SG1 2AY U.K. Phone: +44-438-313311 Fax: +44-438-742849 Please mark all submissions clearly with Special Issue: Mobile Computing. Papers will be peer reviewed and authors notified of the editors' decision by 1st May 1995.
