Conclusions
Windows / NFSv4 ACLs are a foreign concept, difficult to support under POSIX.
- POSIX ACLs may become more important to support in NFSv3 once the 2.6 kernel ships.
- Customer perception is that Windows ACLs are essential for seamless Windows interoperability.
- Kernel work needed to solve this problem 'correctly'.
Blindly following “the Windows way” will lead into a strategy locked into Microsofts roadmap.
- More intelligently taking the improvements such as identifying authority will help improve POSIX.
