Projects: Linux scalability

The primary goal of this research is to improve the scalability and robustness of the Linux operating system to support greater network server workloads more reliably. We are specifically interested in single-system scalability, performance, and reliability of network server infrastructure products running on Linux, such as LDAP directory servers, IMAP electronic mail servers, and web servers, among others.

Our mission

  • To tackle difficult network server scalability problems that occur on Linux and other UNIX-like operating systems
  • To bring talented undergraduate and graduate programmers and researchers into contact with the Linux kernel, stimulating innovative research about Linux
  • To act as a focal point for researchers and members of industry who have issues about Linux and its use as a high-performance enterprise quality network server
  • To provide development resources for local area programmers and researchers interested in improving Linux
  • To feed unencumbered research and modifications back to the Linux community
  • To create recruitment opportunities for graduate students and industry sponsors

For more information, read our project work scope, the project's annotated bibliography, or a list of our current work.
